This weekend was a weekend away from the city, but of a different sort. Some friends and I volunteered to be the kitchen crew on our church's men's retreat, so while we got out of the city for a few days, we spent most of our time indoors prepping food, cooking, and cleaning. It was a lot of work, and our heads hit the pillows exhausted, but it snowed during our one hour break on Saturday, which was lovely. And even though it was definitely a working weekend, there was plenty of fun to be had. Hope your weekend was lovely, if a bit more restful than mine :)

NYC got close to a foot of snow on Friday night, which made for a super cozy weekend. Friday night I hosted a little girl's night in, with truffle popcorn, lovey dovey hot chocolate and lots of laughs (thanks to Pitch Perfect!). The rest of the weekend was spent alternately rushing outside to frolic in the snow and then rushing back in for hours under blankets. Hope your weekend was equally cozy!

Indoor Snow

New York had its first (ill-timed, early) snowfall last week, but it'll probably be a few weeks more before we see much more snow. In the meantime, there's the new Hudson Lodge at the Hudson hotel. Their park space (insulated with glass and heaters) is outfitted for winter with an "apres ski" menu, cozy decor and...nightly snowfall! Indoor snow! It could be either exceedingly cheesy or wintery awesome. What do you think? There's a hot chocolate bar!

(Snowtober) Weekend in Pics

Snow! It snowed before Halloween this weekend! I didn't take the forecast all that seriously, then at my friend's wedding Saturday morning when the congregation turned to watch the happy couple walk down the aisle, we all saw big, white flakes falling. It was a pretty magical way to end a wedding ceremony. And, a really good excuse to stay in and watch Annie Hall that night. Annie Halloween!

Sunday the snow was gone and I got to see two of my favorite musicians perform in an intimate "house" show that was one of the most inspiring things I've seen in awhile. Seriously, if you have the chance, see Derek Webb & Sandra McCracken if they come to your town.

An impromptu hot cocoa party

After trudging home through the beginnings of Snowprahwinfrey ("You get a blizzard! And you get a blizzard!") tonight, I ran into my roommates and two of our neighbors, a can of Reddi-Whip in hand, ready (reddi?) for a hot cocoa party.



In as much time as it took all five of us to remove our scarves, hats, gloves, and snowboots, Megan had whipped up a pot of hot cocoa. Five friends + a blizzard + hot cocoa + whipped cream = a party.



I love having friends for neighbors.

A white boxing day

While I'm sad to have missed NYC's latest blizzard, we did get a few inches at my parent's house in South Carolina. It started as we sat down to Christmas dinner, and continued through the traditional viewing of The Muppet Christmas Carol and was still lightly falling the next morning.
