12 Days of Christmas Gifts: Gifts That Give Back

Let's talk about charitable gift-giving today. It's sort of "for the person who has everything" except instead of getting that person more stuff, you can give a gift that helps another person. Like the goat pictured above (well, not that exact goat). A goat & two chickens is $100 through World Vision (they have lots of animals at various prices) and the recipient of the gift will know exactly what your gift on their behalf has provided for someone living in poverty. It would be sweet to get a Sharon Montrose animal print to give with it.

A Kiva giftcard, to provide a microloan to borrowers all over the world like Ekua in Ghana who uses her loan to purchase maize and cassava to make kenkey and banku (a food staple eaten with many dishes in Ghana). When the loan is repaid, your friend will have the opportunity to give the amount again! How cool is that?

A giftcard to Donors Choose, for a teacher or anyone you know who loves learning. Donors Choose works with individual teachers in schools across the country, so your giving can go to a specific classroom need. Art supplies, books, all the best things about school!

What about you, have you given a gift that gives back? Any other ideas?
